Founded by Michele Wilson and Kylie James, AWWA Period Care is a New Zealand, female and Māori-owned business that’s changing the way wāhine menstruate.
The Māori word awa, meaning river or flow, inspired the brand’s name as our Māori ancestors referred to their periods as te awa atua – the divine river. This set the foundation for AWWA’s ‘why’ – to enable women to feel confident, empowered and divine during their periods. Michele and Kylie commissioned Sketch Studio to design a strong and sexy brand that embodied this vision.

Sexy and sophisticated, the AWWA brand exudes confidence, empowerment and femininity. The strong diagonal lines feel punchy and progressive, while the soft curves represent flow and fluidity. Together, the distinctive brand symbolises AWWA’s customers – empowered wāhine and their period flow.
