What is a vector file?
Nothing makes me sad quite like a low-quality, fuzzy logo. That’s why, Sketch Studio provide a range of logo files, including high-quality vector formats.
Let me explain what vector files are and why you need them:
What
A vector file is based on a mathematical equation – and whether it’s a logo or graphic – it can be scaled as big (or small) as you need without losing any quality. It’s basically magic.
Vector files include AI, EPS and PDF (depending on its formatting).
Why
If you’ve got high-quality and professional files, it’s a positive reflection of your brand, products or services. Simple.
Vector files look clean and crisp, no matter how big or small you need them. ‘Raster’ files, like JPG, PNG or GIF are made up of tiny pixels which are blurred when stretched, creating a pixelated effect. Raster files need to maintain the dimensions in which they were created, while vectors can be used for any application – from an Instagram image to a billboard.
How
Your graphic designer, marketer or signwriter will need vector files in order to create new printed material for you. Unfortunately, there’s no way I can design a pull-up banner or car signwriting, using a logo from your Facebook page or website – well I can, but it won’t look good.
So, if you’re getting a brand created, ensure your designer is using Adobe Illustrator – not Photoshop, Canva or anything else. Please!
